Body Contouring (post bariatric surgery) Face Breast Body Non-Invasive

Plastic Surgery - Liposuction

Indications

Liposuction IowaFor many patients, excess fat in areas throughout the face and body are virtually impossible to eliminate through diet or even the most rigorous exercise regimen. Many patients who want a slimmer, shapelier body contour choose the remarkable results offered by liposuction. These patients are men and women of relatively normal weight who have one or more body areas that they perceive to be large or fat. While liposuction is most commonly used to remove excess fat in the thighs, buttocks and abdomen, it is also highly effective when used to treat the following:

  • Flabby upper arms
  • Double chin
  • Back
  • Facial fat in the cheeks or chin
  • Excess breast fat
  • Calves, ankles and inner knee
  • In some cases, gynecomastia in men

Liposuction can slim the hips and thighs, flatten the abdomen, remove fat from under-arms, eliminate a double chin and contour the face or neck.(1) It is also effective in removing much of the “middle age” stomach in many men.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is the surgical suctioning of excess fat from various parts of the body. It is performed using a slim, hollow tube called a cannula which is inserted into one or more small incisions in the desired part(s) of the face and body. The cannula is connected by a flexible tubing to a suction pump Dr. Cram uses this device to collect fatty deposits using a variety of treatment options.

Dr. Cram have performed hundreds of liposuction procedures on patients of all ages and therefore have perfected his own method of body sculpting via liposuction using the Tumescent technique. During this technique the fat is pre-injected with a salt-water solution containing small amounts of adrenaline and sometimes local anesthetic. Great care is taken to address your exacting body needs while minimizing pain, bruising and subsequent scarring.

Personalized Care

At Iowa City Plastic Surgery, we believe every patient is unique, every body is unique, every treatment is unique. So before any liposuction treatment, we will spend time with you in a formal introductory consultation to determine what parts of your body and/or face you want to have treated. Your age, skin elasticity, overall health, and physical and mental fitness will all play a part in how liposuction will be performed and what type of results you can expect to achieve.

Not every patient is a perfect candidate for liposuction. Liposuction cannot cure obesity, fix cellulite or replace the need for proper diet and exercise. However, many patients experience an improved body appearance, ease in dressing and a higher level of confidence upon receiving liposuction. Through our high level of personal care with each and every patient, we are able to help you set your expectations, feel confident about your decisions and speed the healing process.

Recovery

Most patients who have liposuction experience mild to moderate pain, bruising and swelling immediately following surgery. Liposuction is generally done on an outpatient basis, so you will go home the afternoon of your surgery. Your first post operative visit at our office will be 4-7 days following your surgery. Results from your surgery will become more apparent as your swelling and bruising subside, but final results aren’t achieved for up to 6 months following the procedure. Most regular non-strenuous activity may be resumed after 1-3 weeks. Incisions from any surgery must be kept out of the sun for at least a year.

Cost

The cost of the procedure will depend on the complexity of your liposuction as well as the cost of the operating room and the anesthesiologist fees. The patient is usually given the information on cost at the time of the first consultation. It is important to understand what the price quote includes so that the total cost of surgery is determined.
